What I Learned From the Draft Part II

What I Learned From the Draft Part II

Dear Friend,

Like I said yesterday, the draft can be extremely boring to watch. You wait and wait for the few teams and players that you really care about. You've got to find something to keep you interested...

If you want to run faster 40 times, I hope you saw the video of Florida receiver Chad Jackson.

It is one of the best technically run 40's that I have ever seen.

Great start, head down for his push, excellent arm action, relaxed all the way through the finish. Lots of lessons to learn there.

What got me the most was that Mr. Jackson's head was down almost the entire 40 yards - which generally you shouldn't do. But, he ran a legitimate 4.3, so he must have been doing something right...

That tells me that he is powerful enough to push through almost the entire race. You've got to be incredibly strong to be able to do it.

For most of us, the head should come up to a natural position as the body comes up - when you are done pushing.

But, don't snap your head up too fast, because you'll miss out on most of your push.

If you get a chance to see the video, study it. You can learn a ton by watching somebody run a 40 the right way.
