Memorial Day Workout

Dear Friend,

I hope that yesterday, no matter what your national origin, race, political views, etc. you took a moment to think about those who have given their lives to protect your freedom.

Unfortunately, this has hit too close to home with all of the losses in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world... including one of my former athletes.

Did you know that Memorial Day - or Decoration Day - has been around since after the Civil War? There's your history lesson for the day... I am a recovering history teacher, you know...

Here's another lesson for you. Whenever I think about the military, I think about basic training. I remember paging through my dad's 'yearbook' from basic that he went through in the Air Force. One thing that still sticks in my brain from those black and white photos were the pictures of recruits doing calisthenics and bodyweight exercises.

And that's the reason why I decided to celebrate Memorial Day with some strength training bodyweight exercises of my own last night. Put yourself through this workout for some serious upper body work:

Handstand pushups - maximum number

Chinups or Pullups - maximum number

Handstand pushups - maximum number

Chinups or Pullups - maximum number

Handstand pushups - maximum number

Chinups or Pullups - maximum number

You'll be surprised how fast the maximum number goes down after only a set or two...

Add in some lower body exercises from Ultimate Insider Speed Training Secrets and you'll have yourself a whale of a whole body workout...
